Why in News: CM Dr Mohan Yadav performed the shila-pujan of 45 sacred stones and laid the foundation of a Panchayatan-style temple at Ekatma Dham, Omkareshwar, Khandwa district, on 27 August 2026.

What happened: The Chief Minister, accompanied by his wife, offered darshan at the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga before the ceremony. Saints of the Shad-darshan Sant Mandal and acharyas of Vedic peeths performed the rituals. The temple follows Adi Shankaracharya’s Panchayatan Puja concept, with Shiva in the central sanctum and Vishnu, Surya, Ganesha and Bhagwati Shakti in the four corners, harmonising the Shaiva, Vaishnava, Saura, Ganapatya and Shakta traditions. The CM announced an Ekatma Yatra ahead of Simhastha-2028.

Why in News: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone on 27 August 2026 for a facility to overhaul T-series battle tanks at Vehicle Factory Jabalpur, with CM Dr Mohan Yadav present.

What happened: The Rs 472 crore plant will overhaul 80 T-72 and T-90 tanks a year, cutting the time and logistics cost of ferrying tanks for maintenance and restoring them to operational readiness faster. Vehicle Factory Jabalpur operates under Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), Ministry of Defence. Rajnath Singh framed it as evidence of a self-reliant defence sector, with employment gains for the Mahakoshal region.

Madhya Pradesh Relevance:

3. Baiga Child Deaths in Balaghat: Cause Confirmed, Officials Removed

Why in News: Child deaths in Baiga-dominated villages of Birsa block, Balaghat district remained under multiple official inquiries in late August 2026.

What happened: The National Institute of Virology and ICMR, Pune confirmed measles and malaria as the causes.

The death count is contested and should always be attributed. The district health department has confirmed eight deaths since June. The Leader of the Opposition, Umang Singhar, alleges 19; Congress leaders have claimed 22; local tribal representatives claim 24. Stating any of the higher figures without attribution adopts a contested claim as established fact.

The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission took cognizance and sought reports from the Collector and CMHO Paresh Uplap, and the NHRC also sought responses. Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Rajendra Shukla visited on 22 August, after which the District Immunisation Officer was transferred and the District Malaria Officer removed. Health Commissioner Dhanraju S and Collector Kumar Satyam toured Kundeksa, Bondari, Korka, Machhurda, Gathiya and Ghummur. About 20 teams conducted door-to-door screening, with over 3,800 children screened across three villages, and a measles-rubella vaccination drive for children aged nine months to ten years began on 20 August.

4. Bhopal Begins Sealing Commercial Units in Residential Zones

Why in News: A joint team of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation sealed a hotel in Gautam Nagar, Ward-58 on 26 August 2026, the first action under a drive against commercial activity in residential-land-use zones without approved change of land use.

What happened: In total 8,264 occupancy-violation notices have been issued, 1,018 of them before 5 August and 7,246 after. The unit sealed was an OYO hotel at building A-23, Gautam Nagar. Traders held a prayer meeting at the Kushabhau Thakre Convention Centre and a residents’ association held a candle march from Rajiv Gandhi School to the Five Number police outpost. Small play schools and private schools have also received notices.

Traders have sought an amendment to the master plan, which the BMC Deputy Commissioner has said falls under state government jurisdiction. A Supreme Court hearing is listed for 15 September, by which the corporation must file an enforcement report.

Why in News: Speaking at the district-level Balram Krishi Mahotsav at Datia on 24 August 2026, which he joined by video conference, CM Dr Mohan Yadav said the state will procure wheat at Rs 2,700 per quintal.

What happened: The CM also said the deadline for zero-interest repayment of crop loans taken for seed and fertiliser has been extended from 31 March to June-July, promised daytime power supply for wheat and gram irrigation, and urged diversification into dairy, animal husbandry and horticulture. Sixteen stalls displayed reapers, seed drills, threshers and laser levellers.
