Why in News: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on 13 September 2026 transferred the 40th monthly instalment of the Mukhyamantri Ladli Behna Yojana from Agar Malwa district, crediting Rs 1,835.09 crore to the bank accounts of about 1.25 crore women through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The first 39 instalments had totalled Rs 63,560.90 crore, so cumulative disbursement under the scheme now stands at about Rs 65,395.99 crore.

About the scheme. The Mukhyamantri Ladli Behna Yojana is a state-funded monthly cash-transfer scheme for women aged 21 to 60 years. It was launched in June 2023 at Rs 1,000 a month, raised to Rs 1,250 from October 2023, and to Rs 1,500 from November 2025. It is administered by the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Madhya Pradesh, and complements the older Ladli Laxmi Yojana (launched 2007) for the girl child.

Companion announcements at Agar Malwa. During the visit, the Chief Minister laid the foundation for 33 development projects worth about Rs 226 crore and inaugurated 17 completed projects worth about Rs 28 crore in the district.

The fiscal footprint. At about Rs 1,835 crore a month, the scheme’s annual cost runs to roughly Rs 22,000 crore, borne entirely by the state exchequer. That places it among the largest recurring welfare commitments on the Madhya Pradesh budget.

Why in News: The annual distribution under Madhya Pradesh’s Scooty Yojana, rescheduled from 11 September, will be held on 16 September 2026. The outlay is about Rs 200 crore, covering about 7,500 meritorious Class 12 students who meet the 70 per cent marks threshold.

The merit-incentive pair. The Scooty Yojana is one of two board-performance incentives run by the School Education Department. As background, the other, the Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana, transferred about Rs 304 crore to about 1.21 lakh students earlier this month, with a 75 per cent marks threshold, towards the purchase of laptops.

Why in News: The India Meteorological Department on 13 September 2026 warned of very heavy rainfall in Dhar and Barwani districts and heavy rainfall in 16 districts: Indore, Ujjain, Khargone, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Dewas, Harda, Sehore, Narmadapuram, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Jhabua and Alirajpur. Bhopal was forecast only light to moderate rain.

Reading the warning. The alert is concentrated in the western and south-western belt, much of it in the Narmada and Tapti basins and the Malwa plateau. IMD classifies heavy rainfall as 64.5 to 115.5 mm in 24 hours and very heavy rainfall as 115.6 to 204.4 mm; its impact-based colour codes run green, yellow, orange and red.

Why the timing matters agriculturally. Mid-September rain can damage the maturing kharif crop (soybean, urad, maize) where it brings waterlogging, while conserving soil moisture for the rabi season (wheat, gram). Madhya Pradesh is a leading producer of soybean, wheat and gram. Heavy rain in the Narmada basin also raises inflows into Indira Sagar (Khandwa district), the reservoir with India’s largest storage capacity, and Omkareshwar downstream.
