Why in News: On 7 September 2026, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav began a four-day investment and business outreach in Dubai, inaugurating an exhibition showcasing Madhya Pradesh’s One District One Product (ODOP) and Geographical Indication (GI) products. The state’s outreach model. Madhya Pradesh has, over 2024-26, run a two-track investment outreach: a domestic track through the Regional Industry Conclaves in Ujjain (March 2024), Sagar (September 2024) and other cities, and an international track with the Chief Minister’s visits to the United States, the UAE and the United Kingdom. The domestic track has focused on securing MoUs across sectors; the international track has focused on winning the narrative position of a strategic long-term investment destination on the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor.

ODOP and GI, which MPPSC tests directly. The One District One Product initiative, which began as a Uttar Pradesh state scheme in 2018 and is run nationally by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry with Invest India, identifies one product per district for branding, packaging and market linkage support. A Geographical Indication (GI) tag, granted under the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999, gives producers of a product distinctive of a defined region a collective right to that name. Madhya Pradesh’s registered GIs include Chanderi silk, Maheshwari sarees, Ratlami sev, Bagh prints and Kadaknath black chicken meat of Jhabua, registered in 2018.

2. Major Administrative Reshuffle Including Simhastha 2028 Postings

Why in News: On 5 September 2026, the state government transferred eleven IAS officers and six State Administrative Service officers in a major administrative reshuffle, with specific postings framed around the preparations for Simhastha 2028 in Ujjain and around wider revenue, industries, women and child development, public health, tribal welfare and urban administration.

Key transfers.

Officers of the 2006 to 2018 batches have been assigned new roles across the departments listed above.

Why the Simhastha postings matter now. The Simhastha at Ujjain is held once in twelve years on the banks of the Kshipra river, with the next fair in 2028, and preparations of infrastructure, land use, security, sanitation and pilgrim management typically peak in the two years before the fair. A dedicated Additional Mela Officer is the standard pre-event augmentation; the post has gone to a senior State Administrative Service officer. The Smart City Ujjain posting picks up capital-project delivery on ghats, corridors and public utilities before the fair.

The wider institutional frame. The All India Services (AIS) are the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service and Indian Forest Service, constituted under the All India Services Act, 1951, and cadre and transfer rules are the joint responsibility of the Union and state governments. State Administrative Service (SAS) officers are recruited by the state through the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission, and a subset is elevated to the IAS through the state civil service quota.

3. Cabinet’s 1 September Approval: 41,000 Crore Rupees, Three Technology Universities and Viksit Bharat: VB-G Ram G

Why in News: At its meeting of 1 September 2026 chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the state Cabinet approved welfare and infrastructure proposals worth over 41,000 crore rupees, including the establishment of three new technology universities and the state’s implementation framework for the Union’s “Viksit Bharat: VB-G Ram G Yojana” scheme.

Viksit Bharat: VB-G Ram G in Madhya Pradesh. The Cabinet approved the implementation of the Viksit Bharat: VB-G Ram G Yojana, launched in 2026 with an effective date of 1 July 2026, at an estimated cost of about 3,183 crore rupees for the financial year 2026-27. The scheme is the state operational vehicle for the Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025, which was enacted in 2025, having been passed by Parliament in the winter session of December 2025 and given the President’s assent later that month. It provides a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment to every rural household in a financial year whose adult members volunteer to undertake unskilled manual work, replacing MGNREGA’s 100-day guarantee.

Three new technology universities. The Cabinet approved the restructuring of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) into three regional technology and skill universities: Madhya Bharat at Bhopal, Malwa at Ujjain and Mahakaushal at Jabalpur, following the model of specialised, subject-focused public universities.

Other approvals. Reporting also referred to a Cabinet nod for a laptop assistance transfer of over 304 crore rupees to about 1.22 lakh Class 12 meritorious students under the Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana, executed at Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre on 1 September, and to an approval covering moong procurement at a raised limit for the season.

4. Heavy Rain across the North: Sheopur, Shivpuri and the Chambal Belt

Why in News: A well-marked low-pressure area over north-west Madhya Pradesh and adjoining south-west Uttar Pradesh drove a widespread and locally intense rain spell across the northern districts on 5-6 September 2026, with orange alerts for Sheopur, Shivpuri, Guna, Morena, Bhind and Gwalior, and school and Anganwadi holidays declared in those districts on 5 September.

Rainfall totals reported for 5-6 September.

Rain fell across the Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Ujjain, Gwalior, Chambal, Indore, Jabalpur and Sagar divisions, with isolated showers in Rewa and Shahdol.

Why the Chambal belt. The Chambal ravines run through Sheopur, Morena and Bhind, and the region is drained by the Chambal and its tributaries the Kwari and Sind. A 100 mm-plus rain event over the Chambal belt raises the risk of flash floods through ephemeral channels, and of structural failure on rural roads that cross those channels.

Rainfall totals for the season. Seasonal totals for the state were being revised through the spell and the figures circulating in reporting were not consistent with one another, so no single state-wide total is given here. The district figures above are the reliable ones for this window.

5. Simhastha 2028 Corridor: The 945 Crore Rupees Elevated Corridor at Ujjain

Why in News: In the run-up to Simhastha 2028 at Ujjain, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in August 2026 performed the bhoomi pujan of a 945 crore rupees elevated corridor at Ujjain, and a 91 crore rupees 650-metre underground corridor has been taken up to smooth Mahakal darshan access. Simhastha preparations continued to occupy state attention in early September 2026, including through the IAS reshuffle noted above.

The infrastructure profile.

Why Ujjain, always. Ujjain is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Shiva, at Mahakaleshwar, and one of the four sites of the Kumbh Mela cycle, the others being Prayagraj, Haridwar and Nashik. The Kshipra is a tributary of the Chambal. Historically the city was known as Avantika, was the capital of the Avanti Mahajanapada in the sixth century BCE, and served as the second capital of the Mauryan Empire and, later, of Chandragupta II Vikramaditya.
