Daily Current Affairs 26 October 2026
The 26 October 2026 edition opens with two deep dives. The first is Cyclone Arnab, which intensified into a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal at 0530 IST on 26 October; the same day, Cabinet Secretary Dr. T. V. Somanathan chaired a meeting of the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) to review preparedness. The storm is likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam as a very severe cyclonic storm by the forenoon of 28 October. The second is the amendment to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for flex-fuel vehicles, which expressly includes E100 alongside E85 in the emission certification provisions; it does not require owners of existing vehicles to switch to E85 or modify their vehicles.
The roundup covers the Defence Acquisition Council’s Acceptance of Necessity for proposals worth about ₹2.12 lakh crore, the NCB’s Operation Trident in Assam, Mizoram and Manipur, the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi, RBI’s Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, TRAI’s recommendations on app-based linear TV, MoSPI’s proposal to align ASUSE with the financial year, ₹116 crore for Manastu Space’s green propulsion, the September flash report on central infrastructure projects, the Prime Minister’s congratulations to Lula, a CCPA penalty over walkie-talkie listings and the Siang project protests. Four editorials complete the edition: from The Hindu, V. Venkatesan on where judicial restraint should begin and Sravani Venkatraju on free bus travel, women’s mobility and the Time Use Survey; from The Indian Express, Ashok Gulati and Ritika Juneja on soil health and fertiliser imbalance, and Laveesh Bhandari and Shagun Suryam on the Supreme Court’s load of special leave petitions. A UPSC-pattern quiz closes the day.
