The Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) consecrated its temple at Bussy-Saint-Georges, in Seine-et-Marne, about 30 km east of Paris, on 6 September 2026. It is the first traditional stone Hindu mandir in continental Europe, and is billed as the largest traditional Hindu temple in Europe. It joins a BAPS network extending across the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Africa and the Gulf, in which the London Neasden mandir of 1995 was the first traditional Hindu mandir in Europe and long the largest outside India.

Consecration follows the classical Hindu practice of the murti pratishtha ceremony, the ritual establishment of consecrated murtis of the tradition’s deities in the sanctum. In the Swaminarayan tradition, murtis of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and Aksharbrahman Gunatitanand Swami were installed under Vedic and Sanskrit ritual prescriptions.

The consecration is culturally significant on two counts. India’s First Hydrogen Train Scales Up on the Jind-Sonipat Corridor

India’s first hydrogen train has been cleared to target an operating speed of 110 km per hour on the Jind-Sonipat corridor of Northern Railway, after trials that touched 120 km per hour. The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Board, Satish Kumar, said so at a briefing reported on 7 and 8 September 2026. The train currently runs on the 89-km section at a cap of about 75 km per hour. The Ministry of Railways’ separate Hydrogen for Heritage programme, of 35 trains, is targeted at heritage narrow-gauge routes (Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Nilgiri Mountain Railway, Kalka-Shimla, Kangra Valley) where electrification is architecturally and topographically difficult but where diesel traction has a rising fuel and environmental cost.

The point on which to be careful. Hydrogen is not itself a fuel source; it is an energy carrier. Whether a hydrogen train reduces net emissions depends on how the hydrogen was made. Green hydrogen (from renewable-powered electrolysis of water) is genuinely zero-emission; grey hydrogen (from steam methane reforming of natural gas) is roughly as carbon-intensive as diesel on a lifecycle basis. India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, approved in January 2023 with an outlay of Rs 19,744 crore, targets 5 million metric tonnes of annual green hydrogen production capacity by 2030.

APNIC 62 Conference at Mumbai

The 62nd Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) conference (APNIC 62) opened at Mumbai in the first week of September 2026, hosted in India for the first time in more than a decade.
