Bharat 6G Vision
"India's roadmap to become a leading global contributor to the design, standards and rollout of sixth-generation (6G) telecom technology by 2030"
The Bharat 6G Vision is a strategic framework unveiled in March 2023 that lays out India's plan to research, design and deploy 6G wireless technology and to shape its global standards. 6G is the successor to 5G, promising ultra-low latency, terabit-per-second speeds, integrated sensing and AI-native networks, with commercial rollout expected around 2030. The vision is driven by an Apex Council and implemented through the Bharat 6G Alliance, an industry-academia body, with a stated goal of securing about 10% of global 6G patents.
Relevant for GS3 (frontier technology, telecom, indigenous innovation, digital economy). After India built indigenous 4G and 5G stacks, 6G leadership is central to its ambition to move from a technology adopter to a standards-setter. By March 2026 the Bharat 6G Alliance had grown to 85 members and India had filed around 4,000 6G-related patents, making it a strong Prelims and Mains anchor.
