mRNA Vaccine Platform

An mRNA vaccine platform uses synthetic messenger RNA (mRNA), wrapped in lipid nanoparticles, to instruct the recipient's own cells to produce a specific protein (such as a viral spike protein). The immune system then recognises this protein as foreign and builds protective immunity, without using any live or weakened pathogen. Because only the genetic code needs to change to target a new disease, mRNA platforms can be reprogrammed and manufactured rapidly, a strength proven during the COVID-19 pandemic. India's Gennova developed an indigenous mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, and the platform is being extended to other diseases.
