Background: The Aravalli Range, running roughly southwest to northeast across Rajasthan, is the state’s decisive climatic divide. It runs broadly parallel to the direction of the Arabian Sea branch of the southwest monsoon rather than across it, which means it fails to obstruct those winds and force them to rise.
